Classic Recipe for Basmati Rice
Preparation time: ~3 minutes
Cooking time: ~15 minutes
Servings: 4
The secret to perfect results is the correct ratio of liquid to rice (1 to 3) and simmering over low heat.
Ingredients
∙1 cup AGRON POIEMATA basmati rice
∙3 cups water or vegetable broth (hot)
∙2 tbsp olive oil or butter
∙Salt
∙Freshly ground pepper
∙One lemon peel or two lemon slices
Instructions
- Preparation: Heat the water or broth in a separate pot or kettle. Wash the rice under running water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- Cooking: Add salt, pepper, and the lemon peel or lemon slices to the hot water or broth. Stir gently once.
- Low heat and waiting: Once the mixture comes to a boil, lower the heat to minimum, cover the pot tightly with the lid, and let it simmer for about 14-16 minutes.
- Rest: Do not stir during cooking. Once the time is up, remove the pot from the heat without removing the lid. Let the rice “rest” covered for 10 minutes. This completes the steaming process and makes the rice fluffy.
- Serving: Remove the lemon peel or lemon slices and gently stir with a fork (not a spoon) to fluff up the rice grains before serving.
- Serve with freshly ground pepper. Bon appetit!
